Tristan Palmer (best known as Triston Palma) is a great dancehall singer who started in the 80's. He was firstly produced by Bunny Lee, one of my favourite
jamaican music producer who produced an amazing bunch of jamaican singers such as Johnny Clarke, Owen Gray, Cornell Campbell. He also produced the debut album Don't Cut off Your Dreadlocks for Linval Thompson who later also became music producer. Linval and Tristan worked together to produce the Joker Smoker Album that I am presenting here in this post.
I was pleased to discover that Triston worked a with Jah Thomas, a great Dj who also worked with Anthony Johnson, another great recent discovery in dancehall for me. I specially like the "Gun Shot" tune availbe on the link.
Triston participated with reggae superstar Steel Pulse, Freddie McGregor, Gregory Isaac, Third World to the famine-relief charity project "Music is Life", contributing to the charity single "Land of Africa" but it is impossible to find the tunes, don't hesitate to share a link in the comments if you found it.
There are 2 artist that I absolutely didn´t know who also participated to this project. Mutabaruka is a Jamaican Rastafari Dub Poet that sounds a little bit like litlle Kwesi Johnson but he has an interesting brighter voice and he kind of put more intentions in the way he tells messages, I feel like Kwesi Johnson sounds deeper is more spiritual but it is a personal feeling and I must admit I don´t specially understand what they say!.... The other is Edi Fitzroy another Jamaican singer active in Dancehall .Great to discover too.
So Here you go, some great artist to discover
Don't hesitate to browse Tristan Palmer discography, there are lot of great tunes out here.
